Ning in Education

Using Ning for Educational Social Networks

I am a graduate student doing a group project on social networks. I am curious to hear your thoughts on why you decided to join Ning. Also, describe the impact you think it will have on education.

Thanks!

Hi, Lee!

Glad to have you here. Just a little background on Ning. Ning is a social networking "platform," and so those who are here using it, rather than "joining Ning," are creating their own educational social networks.

But it's a great question, so I hope you get some answers!

Do you also do classroom 2.0?

Classroom 2.0 focuses on using technology in the clasroom and has 8000ish members.

I like it because of the quick feedback. If you have a question or comment someone is going to respond in a short period of time. When you respond to a blog you never know how or whether that conversation is proceeding (I know, some have track back). Also IMHO there is some pomposity in blogs that you rarely see here.

I am doing a ethnography on social networks. I chose ning in education because it seemed like it would more interesting and more useful to me as an educator.

Hope you'll tell us more. If you were asking if I started Classroom 2.0, the answer is yes. :)

I have visited it. I will try to do more than visit next time.

Welcome to the community for those using Ning to power their educational social network. Also be sure to check out Classroom 2.0 for general discussions of Web 2.0 in the classroom.

Please introduce yourself in the "Introductions" forum post. And to see a list of Ning networks being used in education (or to add yourself!), please visit Social Networks in Education.

And have fun!
