Welcome! Please introduce yourself, let us know who you are and where you are from, and, if you are already using Ning in an educational setting, how you are using it.
As a former special education teacher for students with behavior disorders and now a university profession, I find joy in spreading the good news about bad behavior. I started a Ning about Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), this is the complement to the Response-to-Intervention (RTI) model which usually focus' on academics.
I also blog about classroom behavior interventions. So if you or your colleagues need solutions to student behavior problems, I'd be more then happy to share my experience.
Hi! My name is Brenda Buckner and I currently teach 2nd grade at a public school in Texas. I have lived in Texas all my life and graduated from Lamar University in 1998. I have been teaching a total of eleven years. I have taught 4th, 1st, and 2nd grades. While I am not teaching, I am a wife and a mother of a teenage son. I also enjoy doing yard work, swimming in my pool, watching soap operas, and playing with my dog, Angel.
I have always had an interest in technology and tried to find many ways to incorporate it into my classroom. I am now taking online courses through Wilkes University in Pennsylvania to get a master’s in Instructional Media. In this learning journey, I have been enlightened with numerous ways to enhance my curriculum. I am new to Ning but look forward to learning with everyone in my networks.
Hi Christina... I tried to join your Ning... but discovered that joining requires your approval. I have not encountered this before. You may or may not wish to keep that setting. Second, you may wish to also join http://freshmantransition.ning.com/ a ning set up to discuss 9th graders moving from middle to high school. Ron
Cristina,
Nice start on your NING.
I added a few photos and my bio and a blog... so you would have input from someone outside of the class.
Let me know if I can be of further help.
Keep up the good work. Ron
Hi! My name is Vicky O'Boyle and I live in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago. I am mother to a beautiful daughter named Grace. Hello All...I am a secondary Social Studies teacher in Phila, PA. This is my first, formal foray into an educational network - though I've been an avid voyeur of tons of blogs for some time now. Newbie that I am, I look forward to learning how to build a network that will me and my students become better learners.
I am a middle school music teacher for grades 5-8 in Redding, CT. The courses I teach are fifth grade band & orchestra, grade 7 & 8 General Music, and two elective music courses that I had the opportunity to create for grade 6, 7 & 8. I have been teaching at the middle school for nine years. I had the privilege of beginning my high school music teaching career in NSW, Australia, where I taught for two years. When I returned to CT, I taught instrumental music (band) for twelve years in the Newtown middle and elementary schools. I left this position when I started my family. Shortly after starting my teaching career, I completed thirty credits of graduate study in music education. I am married to a wonderful guy, a 21st century leader in the business and technology field.
Hello everyone. My name is Kristine. I'm an online eTeacher at the Credenda Virtual High School. It is located in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan Canada. I teach English and the Humanities online. We use Angel for our LMS and Elluminate for live online classes. We use Ning at Credenda to give our students and staff a place to network. We have a private site for only staff and students called CredendaSpace.
I am an eTeacher from Regina, SK. I worked for Credenda Virtual School where I teach ELA and Humanities classes at the high school level. Our school uses Ning as a virtual "staff room" to share ideas and participate in discussion forums. We also have a Ning for our students which works like an interactive yearbook and social networking site for our students. Our students are in many different locations (as are our staff) so it's a great tool to have!
Hello,
My name is Darrel. I am from London Ontario. I signed up for this Ning, because it is part of my course that I am taking online for Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. I am an online teacher for Credenda Virtual High School based in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. I teach students from all over the province. I would like to create a Ning where all the students in the classroom can meet and get to know each other and perhaps even open it up so that other online students from all over the world can join. I do wonder about how to ensure that students are respectful and thoughful in their interactions.
I am Tholakele from South Africa. This is an interesting site as here we do not have much contact with a lot of people or share views on education. Here it's just given to us and hence we have very limited skills and most of the times we are clueless in what is happening around us except what we watch on the news, we don't have any input on our daily lives, on the lighter note we a beautiful country!
Welcome to the community for those using Ning to power their educational social network. Also be sure to check out Classroom 2.0 for general discussions of Web 2.0 in the classroom.
Please introduce yourself in the "Introductions" forum post. And to see a list of Ning networks being used in education (or to add yourself!), please visit Social Networks in Education.
