My daughter and a friend of hers created a Ning group as part of a high school math
project-it was their idea. Unfortunately, Ning is blocked by their school's Internet filter
so they can't show the product of their hard work to their class.
They thought they could print the home page and the various sections of the site; they then were
going to make overheads of those hard copies as an alternative to having the class view
the site on the Internet, but when they tried doing that, the printed material just shows piecemeal portions of the site. Is there a way around their printing problem? Even if they could get one good copy of the home page intact, they would feel much better.
Hi,
See if the school would be willing to lift the filter on nings--in my experience, school districts sometimes need a nudge in the direction of supporting technology. For example, my school's technology person was able to do this for us when some teacher blog sites were intially blocked; now those same sites are featured on the main school webpage! This is an educational project--the kids should be allowed to use the technological resource they worked so hard to develop.
Hope this helps; good luck!
Thanks for the suggestion, but I believe such requests take time to process. The share session is tomorrow because spring breaks for starts on Friday.
The elementary school I teach at does NOT block NIng (at least not yet). She's guessing the reason behind the block at the high school she attends is because high school students are more likely to explore social networks.
Open the ning. Tell them to hit the print screen button (top row Prt SC). Open Paint (in Accessories), click Control V to paste the screen capture into Paint. Crop if needed and save as a jpeg. If cropping is necessary, cut cropped image, do not save. Open a new Paint and paste the cropped image into new Paint. Then save. The jpegs can be put into Powerpoint. No one will know the difference!! Did that make a bit of sense?
Welcome to the community for those using Ning to power their educational social network. Also be sure to check out Classroom 2.0 for general discussions of Web 2.0 in the classroom.
Please introduce yourself in the "Introductions" forum post. And to see a list of Ning networks being used in education (or to add yourself!), please visit Social Networks in Education.
