Ning in Education

Using Ning for Educational Social Networks

I have started 7 different nings for a team based competition as part of a teacher conference I am organising.

The teachers are working in groups of 7 or 8 to create content and we will then "judge" what they have managed to do ...

Is there any way of merging all of these nings into ONE BIG ONE after it's over to facilitate colleagues accessing each others network posts and moving forward as one big happy community of 49-50 peopel ??!!!

The short answer is: there is no easy way to merge Ning Sites. If you merging Notes and Blogs then it is easier to copy and paste from 8 down to 1 Ning Site. If you have Forums then it will not be as easy to copy and paste if you have many comments.

Doone is right, as far as I know. I think that Ning has some features in the works for future releases that might allow for content exporting and importing, but nothing now that I know of.

You could start "groups" within a network to start instead of separate networks. Would that work?

Thanks for the replies. I wanted to use separate networks to give a strong team identity; not sure if groups would do that.

It would be good if ning enabled this in the future. I love the idea of fluid communities that can merge/diverge and mutate. It might make for some interesting developments as far as collaboration is concerned.
