Baby Jane,
Outstanding idea! I am a career changer, becoming a teacher in my mid-forties. I was the first person in my family to become a teacher and we were, literally, shocked at the breadth of a teacher's responsibility and the considerable knowledge required to successfully teach a subject. As my experience in the classroom and media center expands, my admiration and respect for excellent and committed teachers deepens. Good teachers are awesome individuals. Yet teachers have done a terrible job creating public awareness of the complexity and challenges of the job, as well as the rewards that are intangible and significant. The best and brightest Americans are frequently drawn to the profession. Some leave out of frustration and others stay and remain unsung heros. Now is the time...this is the day to start changing the public perception of teachers Where should we begin? I'm ready!
