Hi All - I'm a full-time academic at the University of Queensland, Australia. Looking foward to creating some collaborations around how pre-service teachers learn to teach; about how undergraduate students learn to learn; and about the ways in which disciplinary epistemologies influence/interact with teaching and learning in higher ed.

I have created a Media Faculty Ning (a private forum, by invitation only).
Feel free to write me so I can invite you if you teach media at the university level whether as theory or practice.

Hi

I'm from the University of South Australia School of Communication and I'm using NING with a large undergraduate course (subject) in Public Relations. The students are from a variety of degree programs - but mainly Marketing, Communication Management,Journalism, Commerce, Psychology, plus a few other ones where the student is taking the course as an elective. The students include quite a
significant number of international students, from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, India, and some exchange students.

My biggest issues so far have been getting them all to register and start using the site. Once they do they - in their own words - 'go off' and start posting comments left right and centre. However, getting any of them to participate in the more serious side of the site i.e. Discussion Forum discussions about issues we are examining in the course has not been very productive so far. This is only week 3 though so I am hopeful it will improve.

I am delighted with some of the early positive effects on 'bonding' between individual students, now I want to move on to more education based uses.

Any suggestions from those with experience would be welcome, as would discussion about the pedagogical issues.
