I found an interesting article which is worth the read. Gabe and I have been talking about the Google Apps and the basic word processor, spreadsheet and presentation tools within it being able to use it with the kids. The premise behind this would be we wouldn't have to worry about the students working in Word, Excel, or Spreadsheet then saving their document to Gaggle's digital locker and then having to download it again. Rather, what I have been trying to do for a long time is go back to how the students use to work, but our servers can't handle it now, where they could login to the computer from any computer in the school and work on their document, then save it and it would be there. The features of Gaggle's locker are great, but having to upload it and then download it takes time especially for the younger grades. The students are already used to logging into Learning.com and their account there, so when they can then now login with a google account which is tied to their gaggle account and do their work online and it gets saved online, then they can access it truly from anywhere. I've been having my eighth graders do work at home, but some don't have excel or word at home, so I've been teaching them how to put it into a format which is able to be read by any word processor or spreadsheet program.
