I will be creating vodcasts/podcasts for most of the topics in U S History as I teach this year and would welcome reviewers. My plan is to upload them to my Moodle site and to iTunes U, and also to burn them to DVD's so students who miss school or need a review can check them out.

I have started a project dealing with mythology and the art and architecture of ancient civilization. Perhaps a set of tool that could be used for a variety of projects would be a better definition. The tools include 200 links to mythologies from over 20 cultures, a website that depicts the art and architecture of many cultures, and on online course on civilization. You can find more specifics and sign up at http://teachersconnecting.com/?q=node/755

Hi Hector! I am happy to join and share your interest, but I think I will be a learner too!

Thanks for the advice Thornybee and that's really one of the major reason why I want to teach. As a student I know first hand what it means to study hard and the things that await us in the future to come. Today's education system has come to a focal point as we resist change in a world that is forever moving forward. I don't think that being an a teacher would limit me to the 4 walls of my classroom. I know have the ability to travel the world and spread my experiences with ambitious student wishing to succeed.

It's all about taking it one step at a time and acknowledging the opportunities that come your way.

Thanks again and hope to hear from you soon, Hector Guzman

Hello Hector, My first reaction was to say 'Why AP History?' Why not International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma History? If you are interested in travel, having experience you can use at home and abroad and really mixing with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds in one of the most up-to-date and forward thinking educational systems then go for the IB. While you are looking into it, take a look at the IB Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) and Middle Years Programmes (IBMYP) which are less affected by the need to get people into university (and therefore less bent by out-dated university requirements). Here's the link to the IBO website: www.ibo.org
As a History amateur (I teach Science but read tons of history books - mainly about South Eastern Europe/Middle East), I'll stick my neck out to history people and say that if you want to get into History as a career then you have to avoid two things:
1. Do not let what you discover make you cynical (especially don't let cynicism waste your early years!)
2. Don't let the educational system you have become used to cloud your judgement in how you teach the students of the future.
Good Luck

My favorite type of history is World History. I took the AP World History course in my sophomore year and have since then been motivated to explore history at a grander level. I want to one day teach World History at the AP level to students all over the world.

My favorite ancient civilization has to be Mesoamerican culture. The postclassical era was a great period of advancement and introduced the world to globalization and cultural diffusion at a whole new level. I also got a new understanding of Chinese culture and government and how Japans approach to the Age of Imperialism saved them from many hardships in comparison to China who was raped for its natural resources and culture.

The world still has a lot of growing to do and I hope to be there watching us evolve and experience life for what it has to throw at us.

Sincerely, Hector Guzman
