When using Notebook, do you need a serial number in order to download the software?

So, I'm thinking I could develop the lesson using the Notebook software, then transfer it to a thumb drive?

You don't have to have a whiteboard attached. The software is free. I downloaded it at home so I could prepare lessons. The notebook application works similar to presentation software. You can create directly in notebook and take advantage of using the pens, highlight tools, video capture etc. or you can import from a scanner, or other file.

I'll be part of a team working on a small research study using interactive whiteboard technologies. I've seen Smart Boards being used, but am unfamiliar with the process of transferring a lesson onto Smart Board using Notebook. Also, if don't own a Smart Board, can I obtain Notebook separately for developing lesson plans? Any insight into Notebook would be helpful!

Hopefully this Fall, the mimio board will be up and running in my room. I am joining this forum to see how others are able to enhance lessons with this technology.

I use a smartboard to teach with in class. I have found that it is very helpful especially if a person downloads the teacher packet and smartnotebook. I am wondering how many different ways others are using white boards. I use mine as a theatre screen, an interactive board for presentations, a way to animate, with the additional components we can also record what is done on the computer screen to make lessons. Any unique or different things being done?
