Hello,

I am exploring the uses of a ning site in my classroom. Right now just reading what is already here. I am sure I will have plenty of questions in time.

Just made a video on Animoto called "Goin' Global: Africa": http://animoto.com/play/zuY...about 1 hour ago. We are working on global partnerships this year, as well.

Hi! Just taking the technology plunge this year with Virtual staff meetings through Moodle and wikis. Any words of wisdom as to how to make the "water warmer" for reluctant staff? We are also incorporating UbD and PLCs. Major obs: the county web folks filter any sort of "social networking" sites (Ning). Advice?

Good afternoon:
My name is Merle Hall. I teach Middle School in Missouri. I currently use my Ning site (http://middleschoolcomputers.ning.com as a way of extending my classroom to the online format. I have different groups for each class. Within those groups I place assignments and have the kids turn in their completed work to be graded. I then use the ning blog to send feedback and allow corrections. My students do economics, government, keyboarding, power points, spreadsheets, word processing, Simple HTML and Javascript programming, Access databases, reading, and timed writing on the blog. 99% of my assignments are done electronically and sent to the blog. I have several other teachers with classes on the blog as well. Science, reading, language, math. We also have several parents who are members of the blog. With their help all the adults monitor the activities on the blog. Consequences consist of removal from the blog. Rewards consist of allowing each student to decorate their own page and add widgets. It is amazing how effective this is.We stress internet safety and therefore do not allow first names, ages, locations, phone numbers, personal pictures etc. As of last count I had every student in the middle school as members, about a dozen parents and about a dozen teachers.

Welcome, Chris!
I would be interested in how your building takes to Ning. My campus tried a wiki, but it fizzled. This seems more like Facebook for Teachers! By the way, I love your picture with the Taj Mahal in the background. Color me green with envy!
