Ning in Education

Using Ning for Educational Social Networks

I feel honored to be your first member. I was thinking of asking my other science colleagues at school to join. Is that OK? (6th-8th grades). My classes are just beginning Force & Motion and students will be choosing a demonstration to perform live or on video and relate it to one of Newton's Three Laws of Motion. This was very successful last year and I look forward to their ideas this year. Next week is our Spring Break week, so some will be out of town, while others may work on it. I expect some fairly basic demos because of that. Afterwards, student groups will design a Puff Mobile...a vehicle from straws, wheels, pins and one sheet of 8 x 11 paper they power by blowing on it (hence the name)! They LOVE this! and it's great for utilizing the Design Cycle!
Best wishes!

Hi Jennifer,

Get as many people to join as possible. I was excited to hear about your puff mobile because I have been thinking of doing something similar for the 6th graders but haven't found the resources. I was wondering where you get the wheels.
I had the speaker come in and it was really good. I find the one world difficult to do but having the speaker come in and addressing the kids in a one world context made answering questions related to one world worked well.

Would you be willing to upload your puff mobile activity or is it on your wiki page.

I am going to get my colleagues to join and then I will be sending out invitations out to different schools so hopefully, we can get more input. I am eager to hear how different schools and teachers implement the MYP program.
