I am writing to ask you all for your support in voting for a grant that I am trying to win for my elementary special education (autism) class. I am participating in a Microgrant program sponsored by PCI Education and an online community, called We...
Just this week, I attened a workshop on RTI. The found that if RTI starts in kindergarten, by the time they are in the 3rd they should be on grade level.

Oh my goodness... no collaboration? How would I have ever lasted in special education? Collaboration is teh life blood of a school... it generates and maintains knowledge building within the institution. I am so sorry. I wish I could help!
Your little guy sounds much like several I work with now... broken families. I have an ongoing situation where teh grandmother is trying to get custody from her daughter who's a meth addict. Sad affair for these little guys.
On the other hand... we are seeing wonderful progress with students using the RTI model. These kids have been beat up for so many years adn are now seeing true success. They are lighting on fire! Success breads more success.
Best wishes!

Yes, happily busy.
Tell me about your students. What are you doing with them that is unique? How are you collaborating with others in your learning community? I'm interested in hearing.

Hi Ann, I hope your first weeks of school are going well.
That is amazing that you knew Joyce Barnes.
My world has become wonderfully busy with RTI now. My firm has several client schools and more are requesting our services. It has been fun... I've even gone in to our schools to help with the benchmark screening. One day its K-3 and the next 9th - 12th and all the grades inbetween. Next week we begin the intervention phase for our schools. Very rewarding!
Hi Ann,
I'm sorry it took a few days to get back to this. I'm still getting used to this.
I taught at Wasatch Jr and Bennion Jr high schools. I was the self-contained teacher for LD/BD classes. That was some years ago when we segregated kids like that. I never liked it and was out in the school trying to "mainstream" my students. Problem was I had some very, very tough kids.
I left there and became a principal - national consultant - principal - and now I'm consulting again. I love whatever elevates the educational opportunity of all students.
Your year is probably beginning soon. Best wishes!
Hi Ann,
You're right in the thick of things aren't you. I read some of your postings and your profile. La Verkin used to be a tiny little place. Has it grown much? I went to BYU and UofU and taught in Granite School district before moving back to Arizona.
Let me know if there is anything I can help with.
I do now know the economics and politics of the Caribbean, but if their resources are limited then the physical come first, I would imagine. The invisible disabilities come last. How diverse is learning, indeed.
Reading, writing, arithmetic are the areas of LD with which I have done all my research and remediation development. Tell me about the kinds of symptoms the students show. I may have some research based ways to help and even be incorporated into a dissertation idea.
