Jeana, I don't know of any research on the use of social networks as professional development tools -- but I would very much like to know. As you learn, could you keep me informed? You can always find me through LinkedIn, which I call my "me in a s…

Hi David,

If your interests include Education Technology, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording conducted by Nellie Deutsch on Technology Integration.

Mark I would be very interested in reading your "12 steps for startup" -- but I don't know how to find you or the steps. Please get me started.

I've written a step guide that I hope will help you and others set up a Ning network for teaching and learning. I've been doing this for over a year with some pretty good results. Here's the link to my post: click for Ning networks in education - 12 steps for startup

I manage educational projects for an international not-for-profit organisation. I've been helping others to run 3 Ning sites. I'm based in Asia, but our teachers are mostly from the UK. I just thought I should say that so you know a bit about my context and focus.

My post is based in real practice and the steps are based on lessons learnt. I have much more to say about the human side of setting up Ning networks, but I couldn't get it all into one blog post. But it's a start. I hope it's helpful.

Welcome

Welcome to the community for those using Ning to power their educational social network. Also be sure to check out Classroom 2.0 for general discussions of Web 2.0 in the classroom.

Please introduce yourself in the "Introductions" forum post. And to see a list of Ning networks being used in education (or to add yourself!), please visit Social Networks in Education.

And have fun!
