I am a member of several Nings focusing on education. They have been an invaluable tool for professional development and making connections.
The charter school at which I teach works with independent study and homeschooling students in our district. I created and have been customizing a Ning for the homeschooling parent educators. It is set to launch on May 18th, when 45 teachers and 800+ parent educators will be invited to join. I'm a bit nervous, but very excited at the benefits for parents to feel connected.
I chose to start the social network with the parents first. I hope to launch a network for the 7th-12th graders next fall. This is still in the early planning stages.
I think a Ning would be the perfect addition to a Web2.0 Self-Discovery Project I am working on for Homeschool families. I am working on the wiki portion but haven't had time to develop the Ning just yet. So many ideas, so little time. :-)
I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and learning with you.
Welcome to the community for those using Ning to power their educational social network. Also be sure to check out Classroom 2.0 for general discussions of Web 2.0 in the classroom.
