Gerald,
Can you tell me more about how you used ning for assessment or show me some examples. We have several teachers using ning for student information, homework and project-based learning. As a superintendent, I'm interested in the assessment piece. BTW, just saw your profile. You're not all that far from my roots. I grew up in Yonkers and my sister livings in Irvington.

Hi Gerald,
I know it's been a long time but... my grade 8s are currently doing a project on the extraction of metals. Basically they have to come up with a project that describes at least three ways to extract metals then choose a metal and look deeper into the impact of its extraction on he world covering two or more of these aspects: environmental, social, political, ethical, economic and say where science is succeeding or failing to help the situation.
The next project will be starting sometime towards the end of March and will be about the human body and drawing parallels with the body to other things - the kids interested in biology can compare our body and its structure and function with that of other living things; the more physics minded can draw parallels to structures and replacements for body parts.
I haven't drawn up the plan yet but it should be out fairly soon. What do you think? Any milage there? We'll have time for something else at the end - a sort of more field work type of project probably in the summer - any ideas? The reason for the lack of plans is that we decided to change the plans we inherited because they were either to dull or too lacking in content - nice to have a balance of creative, inspiring and full of stuff for kids to learn too!

Let me know if you are interested and then we can talk about the connections.

Hos Cakal (Hosh Chakal) as we say here!

Ho Gerald,

Any ideas for this group. More tomorrow - it's late and I have to take the dog.
