Palestinian Contemporary Artists: Dina Matar & Rana Bishara

The Lover
Her eyes and the tattoo on her hands are Palestinian,
Her name, Palestinian,
Her dreams and sorrow, Palestinian,
Her kerchief, her feet and body, Palestinian,
Her words and her silence, Palestinian,
Her voice, Palestinian,
Her birth and her death, Palestinian.
-Mahmoud Darwish

Born in 1985, Dina Matar is a Gazan artist living in the Bureji refugee camp . She received her degree in Educational Art from Al Aqsa University, Gaza, 2007.

Hi Ellen - I live in Portland and teach at Valley Catholic High School in Beaverton. I love meeting other technology loving teachers in my area. Do you know Melissa Lim? I met her last year through the professional development cadre hosted by OETC.

I actually think I'm getting enough networking from Classroom 2.0, Education 2.0, giftededucation ning, There is a new one just started called teachingcontent.ning---I think it's too much work to start another one. Let me know if you do, I drop by. N

Hi Ellen,

I use facebook to connect to my son who is in college far from home. I also keep up to date with my daughter and younger sister. It seems the 35 and younger crowd has a large presence on facebook and I don’t want to be unknowledgeable about a communication tool used by millions! Facebook has some very cool features that give you a glimpse into your friend's everyday life including reading lists and timelines.

However, facebook is not appropriate for my students. They tend to socialize on Webkins or Club Penguin. I feel so lucky to teach elementary and I agree with you that there is much potential for an elementary group focused on sharing the why of technology, not just the how to. I do not use Ning in my classroom because I am unable to control it to the extent that I would like. Blogmeister lets me control every bit of information that is posted which keeps kids safe and parents happy.

Looking forward to sharing,
Elise

Hi Ellen, To answer your questions, I originally joined Classroom 2.0 after reading about it on Edutopia. From there I found out about Gifted Education 2.0. I have been most active with that network. I'm not sure how I got on Ning in Education -- maybe because I was already a member of the other two Ning groups? I think the different between a network and a group is that the group is a subset of the network?
I use the two Ning networks to find answers to questions, learn about new (to me) technology and talk about issues in gifted education.

Thank you for the friend invitation. It's a great idea to use this network to share as teachers. I look forward to reading your discussions -- and to adding to the discussion.

Hi Ellen,
I enjoyed reading your post on social networks. It seems that social networks in general are constantly changing. At first my teenagers were appalled that I would even ask to be included in their group of facebook friends. It took a while but they warmed to the idea and now I have my own facebook account and am in touch with the digital world my kids are so comfortable in. Do you have a facebook account yet?

Hi Ellen
Thank you so much for your kind comments about the Kingswear ning - I'm leaving it for the moment until next week as I am at conferences today and tomorrow and I want to let the children and everyone know. I will start by just taking it offline rather than deleting it as I am so hoping that one day .....
But thank you so much for your comments - it really cheered me up! (Oh and if you really are desperate to see the sock puppets in French there is one little video of one of the groups over on Talkabout Primary MFL ning which is completely public because it's for grown-ups!)
Thank you again!
Jo x
