My argument would be that it takes the idea of a "walled garden" approach too far. The fact that the students get animal names as code words when they blog in a closed network is ridiculous. We are protecting them but teaching them what it means to…

Hi! My school district just went to School Fusion. We have many teachers who are using Moodle to extend their classrooms out side the school day and to provide multimedia materials to differentiate instruction for their students. I need a good argue…

I am having a difficult time deciding which tools to use. Does anyone have any thoughts about the use of Ning vs. Wetpaint? I am on an island since my school is using School Fusion for web pages which seems boring and too simple for use. I was also…

I haven't used any wikis in my classes, but when doing research Wetpaint seemed outstanding. Could you please offer more insight your usage? What year do you teach?

I am a wiki addict but do not use Moodle. I have used PBWorks, Wikispaces and Wetpaint. Wikispaces was the first site that I had the kids post to. They found it fairly easy to manipulate and use. I will be using it again for them to post assignments…

I'm sure many people are aware of this already but I figured I would share it anyway: About Lesson Plans In an age of charter schools, home schools, No Child Left Behind, standardized testing, overstretched public schools, the battle for resources,…

If you want to talk to someone who has become an expert at setting up moodle, contact our school's Instructional Resource Technology Teacher, Mike Sebolt. His email is msebolt@salem.k12.va.us. I believe there is some work to keep moodle running prop…

Is there any cost involved? How much code writing knowledge is needed?

Moodle takes some work - very time intensive. However, it is truly worth the time. Once you have your class set up (think of yourself as a first year teacher) then you simply make it better each year. Students enjoy working in the Moodle environment…

I have been investigating the use of wikis and Moodle in the classroom setting. I was hoping that people would be able to offer help to these two queries: 1- What is the best site that offers wikis to use in the classroom? Wetpaint? Wikispaces? 2-…

Hi Thomas,

With your interest in Education Technology, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording you might find of interest.
