I had been using Etherpad –
http://www.etherpad.com–for a while, but had never experimented its potential as a collaborative tool in the classroom.
Etherpad is one of the best online-based word processors out there not only because it is free (and now open source since Google acquired it) but also because it enables users to create a public pad without having to sign up for an account. Etherpad has many other wonderful features such as easy sharing, author c…

Each year America celebrates Constitution Day on September 17. Since 2006, federal legislation mandates that all educational institutions receiving federal funds must hold an educational program on the Constitution commemorating the day.
Remix America (http://remixamerica.org) has partnered with Constitutional Rights Foundation (http://crf-usa.org) to bring you the Constitution Day Challenge--a creative way for elementary, middle and high school students to learn about and celebrate our Constit…

I think this will allow upper level students to communicate with educators as needed. Parents will also be able to see what their students are learning about and possibly having trouble with. Staff will also be able to post comments and questions that can be answered by other staff members. I think with the right moderation this will help keep education and school districts up to date on teachnology.

Tonight on the Innovation Project Network, I'll be spending 1 hour with Dr. Jim who turned his unconventional (and not generally accepted) idea into an education reform framework that has been implemented in over 80 schools.
His program has been acclaimed by Bill Gates and The Gates Foundation Education Chairman, as well as funded by the Gates Foundation, Ford Foundation, Dell Foundation, Kaufmann Foundation and US Department of Education among others.
Tonight, Thursday May 7th (…

In these challenging times it is hard to believe that money is available for your school. Your school has used all of the traditional methods like candy sales, pretzel sales and pizza in a box. Having two children at home makes parents fund raising experts for twelve years or more. All of this fundraising has it place but what can a school do to take an innovative approach to fundraising. The rising tide of social networks better known as web 2.0 is bursting with alumni and others who have inter…

In some of my previous posts on my African innovation blog, I talked about the
African cancer cure, and before that, my
African Dream.
The question I want to throw out here in this blog full of educators (I assume and hope) is this:
Is social media a powerful enough weapon to drive grassroots development movements offline on a…

Far too often
SortedSites.com will set up and optimize a Flickr account for a client, someone in a department will be assigned to update it with photos but I think they are missing the whole point of
Social Media marketing for a business.
The real key to Social Media marketing for business is to contribute to the conve…

SEO used be an exclusive club, the few who knew how to follow the rules got the results in the search engines. Keyword density, inbound links, page titles...all the jargon known by a select few. This is set to change, SEO will no longer be a discipline held by those who know the tricks of getting good rankings. As Google evolves to deliver relevant search results they will strive to provide what users are really looking for.
New rules of marketing is about conversations and providing good relev…

I'm often talking to my clients about what is your social marker for your business and directors names or even staff names. I have joined a few Social Networking web sites, the idea being when someone searches Sorted Sites or John Beckley I can show what kind of sites should show up on the first page of google in order to get that credibility factor.
This is not a ego trip but more an exercise in internet marketing. When some of our clients are selling land for in Cape Verde for over a million…
