Using Ning for Educational Social Networks

The 2008 Summer Camp video - Introduction, produced by local CCTV in Yinchuan, PRC

This video, broken up into multiple parts for easy viewing, was produced by local CCTV, China's main broadcasting outlet for news and documentary, and filmed during our stay in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in the Peoples Republic of China. Parts of this video have been aired on the local China news, and I'm reminded, as one of the very few westerners in this part of China, that the faces and goodwill of our students and teachers are always an important item of interest to the local population in this city of 1.25 million people. We call these trips "student ambassador" trips, specifically because our students and teachers bring a unique and essential experience to the peoples of northwest China. It is gratefying to hear from my friends who live in this area how proud they are of the now "special relationship" they enjoy with the people of Connecticut, as a result of just two student group visits. I look forward to dozens of student visits to northwest China - to Yinchuan and the gateway to the old Silk Road, to Langzhou and the edges of the Panda ranges and ecologically sensitive and diverse countrysides, and to Xining high up on the Tibetan plateau and the ancestral home of Tibetan Buddhist culture. The experiences of our people in this multi-ethnic, religiously diverse, and culturally unique region represents just one small step in raising awareness of what China is in the history of the world and what China can be to the future of progress and multi-cultural harmony. Enjoy these clips. They're worth watching at your leisure.
